In the outset of the 21st century, computers and
networks are part of our everyday life. Instant telecommunications,
fast journeys, satellite connections, Internet messaging, and so on
without an end. How could all this progress leave international trade
unaffected? The answer seems to be clear. It could not. Today we speak
of e-commerce, and this dream is not an impossible one either.
In
the new millennium, there is more awareness that the World Wide Web
provides immediate access to a broader international customer base
than ever before possible, both to businesses and consumers. Many
businesses have been formed or expanded to target this market. In
seeking this business opportunity, there are many international legal
dimensions to consider including contract formation practices and
requirements; consumer protection including privacy and local language
requirements; and protection of databases and other information on web
sites.
